Lately I have been fixated on painting black dogs.  I find it more appealing if the dog is a senior, all that grey hair gives them so much character.

Fourth or fifth try lucky…I can't remember how many times I wiped this painting before I was finally happy with it.  I ended up using a red background which I have never done before.  I like the subtle hints that peak through the rest of the painting.  Charlie is one of my favourite subjects, so much expression.

Every week I head to Nanoose Edibles, a wonderful organic farm about 20 minutes drive from where I live.  When I arrive this old dog is faithfully laying at the entrance of the little store, sometimes I will even get greeted at my car.  This farm has the best salad greens I have ever tasted.

I haven't completed a painting for a couple of weeks, not for lack of trying, I just wasn't happy with anything that ended up on my canvas…many wipes and I even tossed a couple out of frustration.  Today I was at my little studio in Qualicum,  I finally finished a painting that I was happy with.
