Another  painting of one of my favourite subjects.  I grew up with cats for the first 18 years of my life so I thought that I would eventually have one of my own.  Unfortunately the man I married is very allergic so I can only enjoy them through pictures or by hanging around the cat rescue.

Gracie is our girl,  she has absolutely the most perfect personality.  She is so gentle and her eyes could melt anyones heart.  I enjoy painting her but always find it a challenge because of her dark colouring.  I find it difficult to take a picture that gives me the amount of detail and shading I would like.  This painting I am very happy with as it has captured her lovely personality.

I ran into a woman while at the cat rescue in my town, she was actually just choosing a kitten to take home.  We got to talking and she told me about her beautiful 4 year old cat who had passed away a few months ago, then she pulled out her phone and shared some pictures. I had to paint him, his colouring is so beautiful and the pose was perfect.  I used black gesso on the board and I really like how it turned out.

I saw Lenny outside a strip mall in Nanaimo,  what struck me as so funny was that she was wearing a hoodie and sweater…very stylish pup.   Her owner told me that Lenny was 13 years old and he had owned her since she was 8 weeks old, she was the runt of the litter and no one thought she would survive.  The reason for her wardrobe was because she was always cold as she had very short thin hair, you would never know it by looking at her face.  Anyway she was an absolute sweetie and very rewarding to paint.

This is a kitten that was up for adoption at my friend Barb's store, she was the perfect subject lounging in a tiny hammock that was set up for her and the rest of the litter.  She just sat and let me take picture after picture.  I have painted her many times and keep working with different strokes and colours.

Charlie is from Kentucky where he had been adopted several times and given back.  Our friend Barb arranged for him to be brought to Canada to try to find him a home.  We are the proud owners of Charlie now, though he is a handful he has the biggest heart in the world and is everyones best friend.

Today is the first day that I have ever blogged.  After a morning of figuring out my computer and trying to decide what to write about myself I have finally posted my first painting...hopefully there will be many more to come.
