This is another commission of a beautiful dog Max who has passed away. The owners still miss him very much. He was a joy to paint, his colouring is beautiful and the look on his face is perfect.
Another picture of Willow. I love painting her, she has such expression. Just looking at her you know that she has a great life. I am trying to not over do the details of the painting, a challenge for me as I can just keep adding and adding and adding….
Six am every morning I head to the computer, yesterday I was up even earlier for some reason. I opened my emails and it was like receiving a present. A friend of a friend had sent me pictures of her dogs, her sisters dogs, her friends dog and her parents dog. The pictures are all fantastic and the dogs have such personality. Sometimes it is such a challenge to find the perfect picture that you are excited to paint so when you receive so many that it is hard to chose it is such a thrill. Here is the first painting of many.
This is the second time I have painted this picture. This version is slightly softer than the first. Have I mentioned that tulips are my very favourite flower…
This is Duchess who is no longer with us, she was owned by a friend of mine. She was a very majestic looking cat, her eyes were a very pale green…just beautiful.
I used indian yellow(one of my favourites as my under painting, then I went in and added some other transparent colours over top, I try to do something a little different every day. This cat is actually quite small but has a huge amount of fur.
You have heard the saying less is more, well I am definitely a more is more, that is when it comes to painting. I have been painting just about everyday for two months experimenting and trying new things. Try as I might to use fewer strokes I always end up getting carried away with my paint brush. I will think my painting is finished, sign it and then go back and add more paint. Interestingly some of my favourite artists are those who are very thoughtful about their brushwork and use not many strokes. I guess this is the beauty of creativity, we are all different.
This little girl was sitting on a scale waiting to be weighed,. Barb at the cat rescue likes to keep track of the progress of the tiny kittens that come in. Her head is so large compared to her tiny little kitten body.
I took Dreama Tolle Perrys workshop last summer on Whidby island…a great experience. But until yesterday I did not try her method of painting…old habits die hard. Anyway, I decided it was now or never, so I pulled out all the paints from the palette she uses re read her notes and carried on. What Dreama does differently from any artist I have seen is to cover her panel with several different colours of transparent paint. Then after the painting is set up you add the colours from the rest of the palette. I am really pleased at how rich the colours of the painting look. It is so true "nothing ventured nothing gained"
