Interesting

6 x 6 inch
oil on panel
SOLD
I have definitely been struggling with my painting lately,  it is hit and miss when I am in front of the easel.  I have many beautiful photos of cats which are one of my very favourite things to paint, so this morning I went through them.  I started slow and tried not to panic when I got to where the painting just looks really bad,  I kept going and am quite pleased with the end result.

Big eyes

The photo for this kitten was quite dark, I used the enhance on my iPad and even then painted in more light.  My favourite part is the nose...I always really enjoy painting a kitten.

Can I go outside?

6 x 6
oil on board
SOLD

Jack is one of my favourite cats to paint, every time I go into the pet store he is sitting very regally up on his stoop, just high enough so that none of the dogs can bother him...he doesn't like to be bothered.

Curiousity

6 x 6
oil on board
$50.00
This little doll is a rescue kitten who was adopted last year.   I love the composition of this picture and how her little head is tilted just so.  I enjoy painting pictures where there is not very much background...very effective.

Yoyo

This is Yoyo, the colouring on his face is quite interesting, it almost makes him look crooked .  From the stories I have heard he has quite the personality.

The look

6 x 6
oil on board
SOLD

I have never seen a picture of a cat that didn't warm my heart, this was no exception...her expression is so serious even a little on the cranky side, but you know that she is just a sweetheart.

Get me outa here

6 x 6
oil on board
SOLD
This is a kitten that is up for adoption at our local cat rescue.  I grew up with siamese cats so I have a true fondness for them. Ceaser was our first, then Zorka and finally Samantha or Sam for short, were a big part of our family.  I remember so vividly the sound of the siamese meow, much like a baby crying.

Content

6 x 8
oil on board
SOLD

You have heard the saying less is more, well I am definitely a more is more, that is when it comes to painting.  I have been painting just about everyday for two months experimenting and trying new things. Try as I might to use fewer strokes I always end up getting carried away with my paint brush.  I will think my painting is finished, sign it and then go back and add more paint.  Interestingly some of my favourite artists are those who are very thoughtful about their brushwork and use not many strokes.  I guess this is the beauty of creativity, we are all different.

Baby Kitty

6 x 6

This little girl was sitting on a scale waiting to be weighed,.  Barb at the cat rescue likes to keep track of  the progress of the tiny kittens that come in.  Her head is so large compared to her tiny little kitten body.

Pondering

6 x8
oil on board
SOLD
I took Dreama Tolle Perrys workshop last summer on Whidby island…a great experience.  But until yesterday I did not try her method of painting…old habits die hard.  Anyway, I decided it was now or never, so I pulled out all the paints from the palette she uses re read her notes  and carried on.  What Dreama does differently from any artist I have seen is to cover her panel with several different colours of transparent paint.  Then after the painting is  set up you add the colours from the rest of the palette. I am really pleased at how rich the colours of the painting look.  It is so true "nothing ventured nothing gained"

Joy Joy

NFS
Joy Joy is a very special girl, 10 years ago my friend Barb who runs the cat rescue noticed her at a shelter, she was just a tiny kitten then who had many health problems including trouble breathing, of course Barb fell in love with her and she has lived at  Barbs pet store ever since.  Joy Joy is also the face of the  cat rescue  so she is a celebrity in her own right.
