Joy Joy

6 x 8
oil on board
NFS
Joy Joy is a very special girl, 10 years ago my friend Barb who runs the cat rescue noticed her at a shelter, she was just a tiny kitten then who had many health problems including trouble breathing, of course Barb fell in love with her and she has lived at  Barbs pet store ever since.  Joy Joy is also the face of the  cat rescue  so she is a celebrity in her own right.

le petit chat

6 x 8
oil on board
SOLD
I am always a little tentative when starting a new painting.  Then the painting goes through the really ugly stage when I just want to wipe it, and then with a few more strokes there is a glimmer of hope and I carry on to completion and voila we have a kitten.

The lily

I painted these flowers and afterwards when I looked, it seemed as if they were floating in air.  That is one of the things I most enjoy about painting…anything goes.

Pleasant moment

Another tulip painting, I am very pleased with the background colours.  Painting these little paintings is becoming like an addiction…a really good one.  I can't wait for spring when tulips will be everywhere.

Mesmerized

6 x 8
oil on board
$65.00
SOLD
This is another cat rescue sweetheart.  I changed things up a little and used 3 different sized brushes, usually I use just one.  I like the outcome.

Since mid December I have painted almost every day  and I find that the more I paint the more I want to paint.  I always decide the evening before what I am going to paint the following day,  then in the morning I set up my iPad on the kitchen island make myself a cup of tea and while I knit I examine the photo I have chosen and decide how to begin the painting.

The power of purple

6 x 6
oil on board
SOLD

Well, this is the last of my coloured cat series for now.  I have definitely been working out of my comfort zone and it has been helpful to push myself in a different direction with my colour choices.

Tickled pink

6 x 6

Well this is it…a pink cat.  I chose every colour of pink and red paint that I have, I used some more than others but they are all in there somewhere. So much fun…pink, pink, pink.

Green with envy

6 x 6

Another version of the previous kitty portrait I did.  I am playing with colour so I decided to paint the same cat again using a completely different colour palette…stay tuned for what colour the next cat  will be.

I'm so blue

6 x 6
oil on board
SOLD

This is  the cat that was hanging over Deb's shoulder in a previous painting.   I enlarged the picture and used different colours to experiment.

I have always admired  those artists that use just a few colours on their palette and then mix the magic.  I have finally come to accept the fact that is just not me.  I work quickly so mixing colours just takes a little too much time for me.
I will often start out with just a few colours on my palette  and it doesn't take long before I am digging through my paint box and adding more.

Dog day afternoon

6 x 6
oil on board
$50.00

This old gal was lying on the sidewalk outside of the art gallery in my town, it was a warm summer night and she just needed a rest.  We stepped outside to get some fresh air and there she was in her glory enjoying all the attention from passers by.

The perch

6 x 6
oil on board
SOLD

My friend Deb held this beauty so I could get some pictures, after the photo shoot he was perfectly content to just stay there.  I found this painting tricky, normally I would just enlarge the face to cover a good portion of the canvas and paint that.   On this one I decided to put the person in too so for me the challenge is painting that small…I think there are about 1000 strokes in this painting.
