6 x 8 inch oil on 1/8th inch thick gesso board SOLD
Every time I get the photos for a new commission sent to me it is like opening a gift, the wheels start turning on how I will approach the painting, especially when it is such a sweet face.
My friend was scrolling down her photos showing me everything happening in her life, I spotted this little sweetie and couldn't resist painting that wonderful adoring look.
Another commission, this girl was so great to paint, her colouring was absolutely beautiful, and so very unique. I used red, yellow and blue to mix all of the browns. I loved painting her snout and there was just so much interest on this face.
6 x 6 inch oil on 1/8th inch premium canvas panel SOLD
I took this photo last week, this dogs face was so full of expression. I started with a magenta canvas which was quite dark so I had to do a lot of lightening for the light on the dog. It is kind of like working backwards.
I took the photo of this handsome lad at the ferry lineup in Nanaimo, I thought his expression was great and loved all the folds and curves of his face. I started with a burnt umber wash and spent more time than usual sketching out all the details of his face. Once I started adding the paint it kind of fell into place. I find that the more time I spend on the initial sketch the happier I am with the finished product.
I used a soft palette for this painting, staying quite close to the original colourings...this dog had the most beautiful soft pink nose. I loved the contrast of the bright red collar.
Well it was definitely time to paint another dog. I have had this photo for quite some time and today the eyes just spoke to me as I was searching for something to paint.
This is Puddles, I met him while shopping last month, he was sitting on his owners lap very comfortably. Puddles is a rescue dog and now lives in the lap of luxury. I loved how the light was shining on him, wonderful to paint.
