Cow 151 KING TUT

oil on 1/8th inch gesso board

Another cow day, I have painted so many that I find them much easier to paint than anything else...it is all in the mind I guess. My husband named this guy.

Cow 139 HOLY COW

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
$60.00

Painting at TOSH studio today. I used very few colours for this painting, everything seems to flow together when you keep it simple.

After wiping three paintings in a row last week am pleased with this cow. It is another of the photos my husband took, I love how curious they are around us people.

Cow 129 ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL DAY

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

I used transparent colours to under paint the cow and painted the background over the white canvas,  the cow seems to really stand out against it.  It is an absolutely amazing day so I thought the title was fitting.

Cow 128 UNFORGETTABLE

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

I am really enjoying painting the Jersey cow,  the features and colouring are very distinct, the light circles around the eye and the strong forehead.

Cow 112 THE BRAINY ONE

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
$50.00

Another cow closeup.  I have been adding a little more detail to my backgrounds lately, which is always difficult at first and then once I have done it I look forward to the next painting so I can try something again.

Cow 101 MISS MANNERS

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gessobord
$75.00

Yesterday I was invited to do a painting demo for the De Cosmos art society, it is located in Oceanside on Vancouver Island and encourages artistic growth for its members. What a great experience it was, there was a full room of art enthusiasts who had many questions and comments. For me it was a little intimidating at first since I have never painted in front of a crowd, but the energy is so positive in such a like minded crowd it was a real treat.
This cow is from my demo.

Cow 88 SMOOTH TALKER

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

To me the cow physique is just as interesting as the cow face, the folds, sags and curves are all so important to the look of each cow.  Every cow is so different, I never tire of painting them.

Cow 84 JUST CHILLIN

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
$50.00

A lot of brush strokes and layering went into this cow painting, I just couldn't seem to stop myself.  I really like the position of this cow...great to paint.

Cow 82 STANDING TALL

6x6 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

Sometimes I find it a little challenging when my subject is mostly one colour except for the shadows and highlights, I tend to add a little extra colour to spice things up a bit, like the bright orange in the hair, the soft pink around the eyes...and of course my old standby chartreuse.

Cow 77 DEEP IN THOUGHT

6 x 6 inche
oil on gessobord
SOLD

I like that this cow fills the canvas, sometimes it seems more effective.  Lots of oranges and golds with hints of pink...enjoyed painting him.
