Cow 129 ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL DAY

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

I used transparent colours to under paint the cow and painted the background over the white canvas,  the cow seems to really stand out against it.  It is an absolutely amazing day so I thought the title was fitting.

Cow 118 FOREVER IN BLUE JEANS

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

I have painted this cow several times, I took many photos of her at the farm I visited in the summer, she was definitely wondering what I was doing there. I started painting using mostly blues and browns and then eventually started adding more and more purple.  I loved watching the cow pop a little more with each colour that was added.  The reason for the title is that when I was painting while listening to the radio a Neil Diamond song came on and it has been playing in my mind ever since...brings back memories of my Mom singing in the kitchen.

Cow 115 LIVING IN PARADISE

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

When I started painting small I only did 6 x 6, now I absolutely love doing the 6 x 8. It is amazing how just two more inches can add so much more space to paint with. Still using my transparent's for the underpainting.

Cow 106 THE CEO

size 6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch hard board
$60.00

I decided to use a very limited palette for this painting, cad red, ultra marine blue, cad yellow pale, titanium white and burnt umber(just for the underpainting).  It forces you to make more careful choices with your colours because you have to mix first, also you have much less chance of making muddy colours. The end result is that all of the colours seem to move into each other effortlessly.

Cow 105 For whom the bell tolls

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th canvas board
SOLD

This cow was done starting with a black gesso board.  Starting dark can be challenging to begin with but once you get your mind
around it the painting comes to life, the colours start jumping out immediately.  The effect is completely different once finished, it reminds me of when were kids and used to draw with coloured chock on the blackboard.

Cow 103 CRITICAL THINKER

size 6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gessobord
SOLD

I painted this cow once and then wiped it out, I was trying not to use as many brush strokes and introduce a palette knife...yikes, things did not go my way.  This is the second attempt minus the palette knife.

Cow 102 DREAMING IN PURPLE

6 X 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gessobord
$65.00

When I started this cow I wasn't planning to use quite so much purple, sometimes you just go where your brush takes you.  I like the whimsy of this painting.

Cow 100 LIVIN THE LIFE

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gessobord
SOLD

I used indian yellow for the underpainting and kept things ever so loose.  I like how this painting turned out, I really tried not to over do anything which is definitely one of my challenges.

Cow 97 SENSITIVE SALLY

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gessobord
$50.00

This is another painting from the pictures I took at the farm I visited, all of the calves had separate stalls, this one was the most curious although quite shy. Also she was so beautiful and new, her eyes so shiny...such a sweet girl.

Cow 95 PROUD MARY

6 x 6 inches
oil on 1/8th inch gessobord

I concentrated on the shadows for this painting, I usually tend to make them too dark...it is always a challenge.

Cow 91 I'M INTO YOU

Cow 88 SMOOTH TALKER

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

To me the cow physique is just as interesting as the cow face, the folds, sags and curves are all so important to the look of each cow.  Every cow is so different, I never tire of painting them.

Cow 87 I SEE YOU

6 x 8 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

I haven't used a 6 x 8 inch canvas for awhile, it always surprises me what a huge difference there is from a 6 x 6, it does seem so much larger but really it isn't. I painted this cow with really loose strokes and lots of paint.

cow 86 SUSPICIOUS MINDS

6 x 6 inches
oil on gessobord
SOLD

The colouring of this cow was very unique with very light ears, a dark face and golden tones throughout. I really enjoyed painting with this palette, again a little different for me...not as much obvious colour.
