Cow 222 NANCY

6 x 6 inch oil
on 1/8th inch thick gesso board
$115.00 including shipping

The familiarity about painting a cow is such a comfortable feeling. I used a very limited palette for this painting, sometimes less is definitely more.

Cow 111 THELMA AND LOUISE

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

Another cow day...times two.  Again I started with transparent paints, I am really liking this method of painting especially for the lights.  I will keep experimenting with them and see where it takes me.

Cow 82 STANDING TALL

6x6 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

Sometimes I find it a little challenging when my subject is mostly one colour except for the shadows and highlights, I tend to add a little extra colour to spice things up a bit, like the bright orange in the hair, the soft pink around the eyes...and of course my old standby chartreuse.

Cow 73 TANK

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

All of my yellows, reds and oranges got a workout today.  I did the sketching with a dark mauve, I like how the warms just pop against it. I used two brushes throughout this painting and a little paper towel to move the paint around in spots...lots of play.

Cow 72 KING OF EVERYTHING6

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
$50.00

I started using a couple of transparent paints again, they are really nice to use for underpainting and then to mix with your other colours. I am trying not to make my darks to dark, I sometimes tend to do that. I am happy with this painting, I love the expression of the cow.

Cow 71 GRAZING

6 X 6 inch
oil on gessobord
$50.00

Again with the purple underpainting, I am really enjoying playing around with the colour.  This painting is loose even for me but I like the outcome again just suggesting details.

I have painted this cow once before and was asked to paint it again as the first one had sold.  I so enjoyed painting it for a second time, changing subtle detail and colour.

For this cow I did another purple under painting, I love how all the colours pop against it. I used very loose strokes to get most of the detail.

Cow 67 WHAT'S UNDER THERE?

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
$50.00

I read a quote yesterday in a magazine "I never met a colour I didn't like" that would be me,  but today I stayed with a very subdued for me palette.  I love how this cow turned out and am very pleased that I stuck with a limited colour choice...I did have to add a touch of olive green right at the end though.

I think there could be a thousand paint strokes in this painting, I used a very small palette one blue, two reds, two yellows and of course burnt umber. I just kept mixing and mixing to get more and more wonderful colours...sometimes less is truly more.

I have tried several times to paint this cow with no luck...I tried once more.  I started just adding the darks very loosely and then just kept adding little bits until I was happy with it.

Cow 55 Puzzled

I can't remember why I decided to paint my first cow, they are just so wonderful to paint.  I also had no idea how many cow fans there are.

Cow 54 I'm serious

6 x 8 inch
oil on board
SOLD

I have painted this cow before,  I took a different approach starting with a thalo blue under painting.  I used alizarin crimson to soften the rust colour.  The more I paint cows the more I want to paint cows.
