Cow 118 FOREVER IN BLUE JEANS

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

I have painted this cow several times, I took many photos of her at the farm I visited in the summer, she was definitely wondering what I was doing there. I started painting using mostly blues and browns and then eventually started adding more and more purple.  I loved watching the cow pop a little more with each colour that was added.  The reason for the title is that when I was painting while listening to the radio a Neil Diamond song came on and it has been playing in my mind ever since...brings back memories of my Mom singing in the kitchen.

Cow 110 THE SCHOLAR

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
$60.00

Initially I wasn't going to paint this cow, I thought that the nose would be the only star.  Well I decided to move ahead because I enjoy painting subjects that fill the canvas.  I started using only transparent paints, and tried not to load my brush to heavily with paint...I tend to do that. I am very pleased with the finished painting.

Cow 106 THE CEO

size 6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch hard board
$60.00

I decided to use a very limited palette for this painting, cad red, ultra marine blue, cad yellow pale, titanium white and burnt umber(just for the underpainting).  It forces you to make more careful choices with your colours because you have to mix first, also you have much less chance of making muddy colours. The end result is that all of the colours seem to move into each other effortlessly.

Cow 89 LUNCH TIME

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8 inch gessobord

I was fortunate enough to spend a couple of hours at one our local dairy farms yesterday.  We drove up to the barn where the cows were just enjoying their lunch, but curiosity was peaked for one gal who quickly made eye contact with me  long enough to get some great photos...she had the prettiest eyes.

Cow 73 TANK

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

All of my yellows, reds and oranges got a workout today.  I did the sketching with a dark mauve, I like how the warms just pop against it. I used two brushes throughout this painting and a little paper towel to move the paint around in spots...lots of play.

Cow 67 WHAT'S UNDER THERE?

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
$50.00

I read a quote yesterday in a magazine "I never met a colour I didn't like" that would be me,  but today I stayed with a very subdued for me palette.  I love how this cow turned out and am very pleased that I stuck with a limited colour choice...I did have to add a touch of olive green right at the end though.
