COLOUR DANCE

8 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

I so enjoyed painting these tulips, it started out to be a very grey day here and the more I painted them the more the weather cleared.  I used a small palette knife for parts of the painting...very freeing.

PARTY GIRL

6 x 6 inch

oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

I decided to add a really vibrant back ground for this little bird. It always surprises me with how much you can pack into such a small painting.

GINGER SNAP

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

This was my second attempt at this little bird, yesterday after working for quite some time on it never being completely happy, the cloth came out and within a few seconds it was gone. Today I sat with my cup of tea examining the photo, there is much more detail on a little bird than what you first think, tiny little things like the small mark where the beak begins or the small curve at the end of the head where the body begins. These details give so much more character when you are painting.

TEDDY

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
$75.00

I have had this photo for awhile and kept examining it to see how I would paint it. I would see more subtle detail the longer I looked and wanted to add all of them so the bear would have a personality.

B.C. MOMENT

6 X 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

Today was just one of those days, absolutely perfect weather, crisp and bright...my inspiration for this painting.  I don't do many landscapes but I am always pleased when I decide to tackle one.  The tricky part for me is not going to crazy with my detail and paint strokes...I have to keep saying to myself "slow down" stay in the moment.

SPOT

size 6 x 8 inches
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

I was asked to paint a very beloved family pet from years age for a special Mom for Christmas.  I was sent one very old photo with not much detail but what truly defines the dog is his ball which was always with him.

FLIRTY

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

I played around with the background on this little bird, I like how it turned out. Gold and pink together are just the loveliest combination of colours....sooo warm.

GRACIE IN FLOWERS

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

This is my dog Gracie, my friend Marisa took this photo when she was visiting the  island.  The background was of our wood floor but I decided to add some punch since Gracie is such a fan of the outdoors.  I am still find it surprising that you can fit so much onto such a small canvas.

MASTER GARDENER

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

I borrowed the image of this bunny from my friend Ron who regularly travels around our area taking photos of wild life. I bought a new brush when I was in Calgary. The brush is very fine with long bristles, I have been dragging it around the last couple of paintings I have finished. There is an untidy look to the paintings which I am really enjoying.

FEATHERED FRIEND

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
$60.00

This photo had a solid plain background, I decided to add a little more interest when I painted it...I do think birds are happier hanging out in trees, they just seem less vulnerable.

BIRD ON A RHODO

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
$60.00

I took this photo last week through my office window.  Every day the birds come and sit on the rhodo outside the window waiting their turn for a nibble at the bird feeder. I loved the beautiful colour of the maple with its red autumn glow against the bright rich green of the rhodo leaves.

BIRDIE NUM NUM

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

A couple of months ago we decided to introduce our son to the movie The Party starring Peter Sellers, while painting this bird all that kept running through my head was "birdie num num, birdie num num" hence the name of this little beauty . Last year we put up a bird feeder outside the window of our office, I have never seen so much action, below the bird feeder is a Rhodo which the birds sit on while waiting their turn to have a little peck at the food, while some birds are waiting others are just flying around trying to get in on the action. The odd time a wood pecker will end up swinging from the feeder, I never realized how big they are, anyway I have been wanting to paint more birds and every time I look out the window I get a big reminder.
