Fall is a perfect time to paint a bird, especially when the weather is so amazing. The background was inspired from the view out of my studio window of the beautiful ocean, the colours change daily.

Lately I seem to be using more rich oranges, golds and reds than usual...right now our area is full of the most amazing fall colours.  A friend of mine was mentioning that because of the long very hot summer we had it makes them even more spectacular. I love nature.

Another day to paint a floral and bird painting, I underpinned the canvas black and all of the colours just seem to pop. I am loving painting on the larger canvas.

There are always a couple of robins standing around just below our plum tree, it seems in the morning they are really busy. I used a very limited palette for this painting trying to just focus on my perception of the true colours of the bird.

I used a more subtle palette than usual so I decided to use a red underpainting.  I like the end result soft with a little bit of a bite.
