ANEMONES AND OTHERS

18 x 18 inch oil
on 3/4 inch thick wrapped canvas
SOLD

Ahhh anemones, I just love that they don't bloom until late summer early fall, but when they do they take over the rest of the garden. Painting them is always a delight.

I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board

This painting is from a photo my husband took on one of his hikes, it is on the cpr loop which is between Qualicum Beach and Port Alberni.  I am really enjoying doing landscapes, the ever-changing scenery is such an inspiration.

ALL HER GLORY

There is nothing more beautiful than the flowering cherry tree especially when it is set against the most stunning  greens in their finest at the beginning of spring, and just when you think nothing could be more beautiful, you see the crystal blue sky peeking through...inspiring nature.

FLOWER FROLIC

16 x 20 inch
oil on 1 1/5 inch wrapped canvas
$250.00

Today is definitely fall, blue sky, crisp air and leaves  turning those wonderful colours.  I wonder why I just wanted to paint summer flowers. The flowers were pink in the reference photo I used, I don't use a lot of purple but today I made a conscious decision to make it the main colour of the flowers. I absolutely love purple and green together.

EASY LIVING

10 x 10 inch
oil on 1/8th inch canvas hard board
SOLD

These are flowers from my garden and of course my trusty turquoise vase. I started with a dioxazine purple under painting and then layered colour trying to leave some of the purple exposed, I finished the painting and decided to take my dogs for a walk.  When I got back home and looked at the painting again I decided to add just a couple of hints of cadmium red, it just gave the painting a little more punch.

Through the trees

size 10 x 10 inch

I took the photo for this painting at St. Annes academy in Victoria, I love walking there when I visit.  This painting is a little bit of a departure for me, I want to work more with light and shadow.

Cow 56 Chill

6 x 6 inch
oil on board
SOLD

I used thalo blue again for my underpainting, I changed the background colour twice before I was happy with it.  Sometimes when you have such a strong underpainting colour it competes with everything else.  In the end I was happy with the green.

This is Pebbles  my girlfriends cat, she thought I would enjoy painting her.  Pebbles has the most beautiful colouring and fantastic green eyes, she is a senior but still looks so youthful.

Cow 44 On my own

I am really enjoying painting my cows lately, trying with each one to add different colours for the accents. This one I just used a little purple, I like it against the rusty brown of the body the pink background.

Cow 43 Pardon me

6 x 8
oil on panel
SOLD

I decided to use blue and purple as the shadow colour for the cow.  I just kept adding little bits of bright colour to make the painting more lively, so much variation you can use for a black and white cow.

Cow 41 Looking good

6 x 8 inch
oil on panel
SOLD

I was at my studio at the art centre today.  I am really trying to be more loose and not go over and over the same brush stroke(a huge issue with me).  I also threw in some magenta to my palette just for fun.

Welcome home

6 x 6
oil on panel
$50.00

Fairfield is one of my favourite areas in Victoria.  Walking the streets filled with character homes is the perfect thing to do on a sunny afternoon, I liked the colours on this house, purple and blue two of my favourites and against the green of the shrubs is a perfect combination.

I am really trying to not start adding any serious detail until the end of the painting, this is a real challenge for me.
