WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch premium canvas panel
$60.00

I started with a red under painting which in a way  gives you a head start as it automatically fills in all those spaces that you are just not sure what to do with.  I didn't use as many darks as usual, I like the whimsy of this painting.

SUMMER EVENING WITH FRIENDS

6 X 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch premium canvas panel
SOLD

We had dinner at our good friends Leigh and Gerald's house last Sunday and sitting on the window ledge were these wonderful geraniums with just a few end of the season flowers left. I find the leaves and the wildness of the plant so interesting to paint especially with the dots of light peeking through.

Cow 143 BEAUTY SCHOOL DROP OUT

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch premium canvas panel
SOLD

I have painted this cow several times, she is definitely a favourite.  I started with a deep magenta underpainting, I stuck to just the primary colours trying to keep things really simple and not compete too much with the background.

HELLO LADIES

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
$60.00

I took the photo of this handsome lad at the ferry lineup in Nanaimo, I thought his expression was great and loved all the folds and curves of his face.  I started with a burnt umber wash and spent more time than usual sketching out all the details of his face.   Once I started adding the paint it kind of fell into place.  I find that the more time I spend on the initial sketch the happier I am with the finished product.

SMALL TOWN FLOWERS

size 16 x 20 inch
oil on 1/2 inch stretched canvas
$275.00

I took this photo in the spring just up the hill from where I live right when the early flowers were at their best. I started with a white canvas and sketched very loosely the composition. I blocked out all of the dark areas first and then just kept adding colour.

SERENITY

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch premium canvas panel
$60.00

I have painted these tulips several times,I love how they are spilling over the vase to put on such a show.  I started with Payne grey for the underpainting,  There is such an immediate pow when you start painting on a dark background, the direction you take is completely different.

WALLPAPER

8 X 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch premium canvas board
$85.00

I used an orange under painting for this panel, as I was painting it just started to remind me of wallpaper, very busy wallpaper.
I used many small quick strokes and just kept layering the colour.

SIMPLE PLEASURES

6 x 6 inch
oil on  1/8th premium canvas panel
$60.00

I started this painting with a transparent red canvas, I like how you can see glimpses of the colour under the blues and golds.

EASY LIVING

10 x 10 inch
oil on 1/8th inch canvas hard board
SOLD

These are flowers from my garden and of course my trusty turquoise vase. I started with a dioxazine purple under painting and then layered colour trying to leave some of the purple exposed, I finished the painting and decided to take my dogs for a walk.  When I got back home and looked at the painting again I decided to add just a couple of hints of cadmium red, it just gave the painting a little more punch.

LITTLE LOVELY

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

Another deer painting.  I so enjoy painting them, even though when I look out my front window I can see what they have been eating out of my garden.

MOTHERLY LOVE

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

Yesterday I was driving home and saw these deer casually walking across the street, I pulled over of course and snapped some pictures. I started with a white canvas(no under painting), I completely finished painting the deer before I started the background, the photo shows them in front of a white shed.  I decided to add the foliage for a more interesting background.

WINDOW SILL FLOWERS

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board

SOLD

These are two of my favourite glass pieces, they sit on the window sill in my kitchen, the added beauty of cosmos from my garden makes for a perfect still life.  I started with a plain canvas(no underpainting), then  sketched very loosely just marking the shapes with transparent brown.  I just kept colour blocking the shapes and adding little bits of detail.  I like the expressionist quality of this painting.
