FANCY PANTS

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gessobord
$75.00

This is Rudy the Rooster who lives with my friend Cindy, she says that Rudy is a little too vocal. My daughter thought that Fancy Pants would be a good name since he is so colourful.

Cow 97 I'M OFTEN MISUNDERSTOOD

6 X 8 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

Today was a cow day, always my go to. I have been doing commissions lately so it is nice to get back to just painting with no second guessing which I always seem to do when I am working on a commission.

Friday 18 December 2015

GARDEN PATROL

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gessobord
$65.00

I got this photo from morgue file which is a site with thousands of photos which you are free to use.  When I enlarged the photo it became quite blurry but I loved composition and the great big deer ears.  I actually really enjoyed doing this painting with so little detail and just adding my own.

Tuesday 15 December 2015

AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A...

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gessobord
$65.00

This is Puddles, I met him while shopping  last month, he was sitting on his owners lap very comfortably.  Puddles is a rescue dog and now lives in the lap of luxury.  I loved how the light was shining on him, wonderful to paint.

Sunday 13 December 2015

ROCKIN IN RED

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gessobord
$65.00

Well it is #3 painting of the Victoria house, I decided to do the tree with no leaves, I like the simplicity of this painting, just blocks of colour.

Thursday 10 December 2015

TOTALLY TURQUOISE

8 x 6 inches
oil on 1/8th inch gessobord
SOLD

They say that if you paint the same subject over and over you will improve your skills. I decided to paint another one of my Victoria house. Tomorrow I will paint it again, unless of course something else peaks my interest.

Tuesday 8 December 2015

VISION IN VIOLET

8 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

I took the photo for this house last year in my favourite city, Victoria. The colour of the house was white but I decided to make it violet.  We are having many days of grey so I wanted to spice things up a little, I also liked how the golds and yellows complemented the violet.

Wednesday 2 December 2015

Cow 97 SENSITIVE SALLY

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gessobord
$50.00

This is another painting from the pictures I took at the farm I visited, all of the calves had separate stalls, this one was the most curious although quite shy. Also she was so beautiful and new, her eyes so shiny...such a sweet girl.

Thursday 26 November 2015

Cow 96 JUST HANGIN

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gessobord
$65.00

This is another cow that I saw at a farm in my area, she was waiting patiently for something all on her own, while the other cows were together on the other side of the barn.

Sunday 22 November 2015

Cow 95 PROUD MARY

6 x 6 inches
oil on 1/8th inch gessobord
SOLD

I concentrated on the shadows for this painting, I usually tend to make them too dark...it is always a challenge.

Friday 20 November 2015

Cow 94 THE FRONT MAN

6 x 6 inches
oil on 1/8th inch gessobord
SOLD

I used dioxazine purple for the underpainting.  I also painted really loose...I mean really loose even for me.

Thursday 19 November 2015

Wednesday 18 November 2015

DIESEL1

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

Another commission of a dearly loved pet. I so enjoyed doing the painting of twelve year old Diesel.

Tuesday 17 November 2015

PARK STREET

6 x 6 inches
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board

I took the photo for this painting on a glorious summer day in Victoria just down the street from one of our favourite cafes, the Parsonage.

Sunday 15 November 2015

Cow 93 YO MAMA

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8inch gessobord
SOLD

This is my second try at this cow, I had completely finished the painting listed it went back a few hours later just for a peek pulled the listing and redid the painting.  I am much happier with this cow.

Saturday 14 November 2015

SWEET PONY

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

Another commission. It was a blurry photo with not much detail that I painted the pony from, quite the challenge but I am pleased with the outcome.

Friday 13 November 2015

DILLON

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

This is a commissioned piece, it is the second horse that I have ever painted.  I so enjoyed painting him.

Tuesday 3 November 2015

PLEASANTLY PLUMP

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gessobord
SOLD

This pig was actually much more than pleasantly plump, he was sitting very happily with his partner in a slop of mud...obviously eating was his top priority.

Friday 30 October 2015

PARTY GIRLS

12 x 12 inches
oil on 1/8 inch gessobord
$200.00

It was so exciting to paint on a large canvas, yes after painting mostly on 6 x 6 inch a 12 x 12 inch seems huge. This painting is kind of abstract impressionist with lots of colour...really fun.

Thursday 29 October 2015

THE QUEEN HAS SPOKEN

6 X 6 inch
oil on 1/8 inch gessobord
SOLD

This is another commission I did.  I really enjoyed painting her...again always a challenge when subject is a black and a fur ball.

Wednesday 28 October 2015

Tuesday 27 October 2015

SWEET FACE

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8 inch gessobord
SOLD

I always enjoy painting a lab, probably because I own two, the face is always so full of expression.  Even though I have been working with oil paint for about two years I am still learning, your painting can look completely different just with the stokes and blending you decide to use.

Monday 26 October 2015

Cow 92 WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8 inch gessobord
NFS

This is a painting I donated to our local Old School House art gallery for the food bank show.

Friday 23 October 2015

Cow 91 I'M INTO YOU

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8 inch gessobord panel
SOLD

I fell in love with this cows expressions,I plan on painting her a few times at least.  When I was taking her photo she just kept looking at me and tilting her head like she wanted me to photograph her.

Thursday 22 October 2015

Cow 90 WATCHFUL EYE

 6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8 inch gessobord
$65.00

This cow was standing all alone while the others had pushed themselves up against the fence, she seemed just a little uncertain.  I used transparent red for the underpainting and kept things really loose, I like how this painting turned out.

Wednesday 21 October 2015

DIRT BOSS

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8 inch gessobord
NFS

When I walked up to this pig he became very vocal, you could tell that he loved attention. As a pet of the farm owners he has a very good life just rolling around in the mud and lounging with his partner.

Monday 19 October 2015

Cow 89 LUNCH TIME

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8 inch gessobord
SOLD

I was fortunate enough to spend a couple of hours at one our local dairy farms yesterday.  We drove up to the barn where the cows were just enjoying their lunch, but curiosity was peaked for one gal who quickly made eye contact with me  long enough to get some great photos...she had the prettiest eyes.

Sunday 18 October 2015

HAPPY APPLES

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8 gesso board
SOLD

I have been on an apple kick lately, I find it helps my painting to use the same subject several times...always learning something from apple to apple.

Saturday 17 October 2015

GREEN APPLES

6 s 6 inch
oil on 1/8 inch gessobord
SOLD

I have been enjoying painting apples, completely different from painting animals...or maybe I just think it's different.

Friday 16 October 2015

THE BIG APPLE

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8 inch gessobord
$50.00

Hmmm, how to make a subject that is mostly red have interest...difficult for me but liked the challenge.

Thursday 15 October 2015

UNITED WE STAND

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

I have learned over the years that creating a painting you are happy with means you have to examine your photo or subject...keep referring to it over and over as you paint, maybe put down your brush leave for a moment and come back and look again, especially the small details that you at first won't even see but will make your painting come alive when you add them.

Wednesday 14 October 2015

APPLE A DAY

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

There is so much more to painting an apple than I had first thought. The very slight colour changes on the skin, the different reflections, lights and darks...quite a wonderful subject to paint.

Friday 9 October 2015

Cow 88 SMOOTH TALKER

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

To me the cow physique is just as interesting as the cow face, the folds, sags and curves are all so important to the look of each cow.  Every cow is so different, I never tire of painting them.

Thursday 8 October 2015

Cow 87 I SEE YOU

6 x 8 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

I haven't used a 6 x 8 inch canvas for awhile, it always surprises me what a huge difference there is from a 6 x 6, it does seem so much larger but really it isn't. I painted this cow with really loose strokes and lots of paint.

Wednesday 7 October 2015

cow 86 SUSPICIOUS MINDS

6 x 6 inches
oil on gessobord
SOLD

The colouring of this cow was very unique with very light ears, a dark face and golden tones throughout. I really enjoyed painting with this palette, again a little different for me...not as much obvious colour.

Tuesday 6 October 2015

Cow 85 LARGER THAN LIFE

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

Where to start...I did a loose sketch of this big cow and just kept adding small hints of detail. I didn't want it to become too busy, the palette was simple. The nose is my very favourite part of this painting.

Monday 5 October 2015

Cow 84 JUST CHILLIN

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
$50.00

A lot of brush strokes and layering went into this cow painting, I just couldn't seem to stop myself.  I really like the position of this cow...great to paint.

Sunday 4 October 2015

PRETTY PETALS

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

It is a beautiful sunny day here so I was in the mood to paint something cheerful.  I have had this photo for months, I rarely paint a single flower but am really pleased how this one turned out.  Sometimes it gives more impact to just have one subject on a small panel.

Friday 2 October 2015

Cow 83 SPOTS AND DOTS

6 x 6 inches
oil on gessobord
GIFTED

I have put off painting this cow, not sure about how to approach the ever so spotty nose, I wanted to make sure you could see the nostrils and not just think they were just more spots. I am happy with the outcome.

Friday 25 September 2015

Cow 82 STANDING TALL

6x6 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

Sometimes I find it a little challenging when my subject is mostly one colour except for the shadows and highlights, I tend to add a little extra colour to spice things up a bit, like the bright orange in the hair, the soft pink around the eyes...and of course my old standby chartreuse.

Thursday 24 September 2015

Cow 81 HEAD HONCHO

6x6 inches
oil on gessobord
SOLD

This is another painting I started with a white canvas...no underpainting, I am really enjoying the process, it's like someone turned a bright light on while you were painting...change is always good to shake things up a little.

Wednesday 23 September 2015

Cow 80 BABY MAMA

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

I started this painting on a white canvas...no under paint, and sketched it with indian yellow.  I like that it is really crisp, the cow stands out so much against the background.

Tuesday 22 September 2015

Cow 79 INNOCENCE

6 x 6 inches
oil on gessobord
SOLD

There is something wonderful about anything as soft and wispy as a baby calf, and so very innocent. I used a very limited palette and worked on enhancing the soft curves and leaving the brushwork very loose.

Monday 21 September 2015

Cow 78 BFF

size 6 x 6
oil on gessobord
SOLD

These two cows were great to paint, I used a limited palette and kept things very simple.

Saturday 19 September 2015

Cow 77 DEEP IN THOUGHT

6 x 6 inche
oil on gessobord
SOLD

I like that this cow fills the canvas, sometimes it seems more effective.  Lots of oranges and golds with hints of pink...enjoyed painting him.

Thursday 17 September 2015

Cow 76 THE BELL BOY

6 x 6 inches
oil on gessobord
SOLD
I haven't painted many pure white cows, it can be a challenge sometimes because of my colour addiction.  That being said I really enjoyed just trying to keep the colours and shadows soft though I did get to add a little pop with the landscape.

Wednesday 16 September 2015

Cow 75 GREEN ACRES

6 x 6 inches
oil on gessobord
SOLD

Today I was in my studio in town, whenever I am not sure what to paint I go to the cow...never fails to get the creative juices flowing.

Monday 14 September 2015

SELF-ASSURED

6 x 6 inch
oil on gesso board
SOLD

I haven't painted a cat for quite some time, I used much more paint than usual, I just kept layering until I got the effect I wanted.

Saturday 12 September 2015

Cow 74 THREE'S A CROWD

6 x 6 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

I couldn't seem to get this painting right, I worked on it for two days and couldn't figure out what I didn't like about it.  I finally wiped the face and started from scratch giving it more colour and definition to differentiate from the cows in the forefront.  I am really happy with the outcome.
