Dancing cosmos

6 x 8
oil on board
SOLD

Another floral, I had taken a picture of these flowers in the fall, it was still really warm then and they were still going strong.
On my living room mantel I have 4 empty frames set up and when I finish a painting it goes into one of the frames so I can get the full impact.  I am particularly pleased with this painting, I like that every corner of the canvas is full of colour and movement, I think the pattern would make a great duvet cover.  The more I paint the more I look forward to painting.

The last couple of days have been flowers, the weather is still quite lovely here and I am sure that spring is just around the corner.  I am pleased with this painting, I like the colours and the composition.

Togetherness

It was an absolutely beautiful spring day yesterday so I had the urge to paint flowers, of course I chose tulips...my very favourite.  I love the simplicity of this painting.

I was at my studio today working away on this cow painting, one of my friends came to visit took a look at the cow and said it belongs in a children's story book.

Cow 30...I have time on my side

6 x 8
oil on board
$65.00

I haven't painted for about a week and it wasn't for  lack of trying.  It seemed that every time I picked up my brush after about an hour the canvas would end up being wiped or going into the garbage.  This morning I headed into my studio unsure of the outcome, I am happy with this painting, I used a bright purple underpainting and changed up my usual colours.

Cow 29...The Boss

I used a purple underpainting which I am going to do more often,  I like the outcome, it just seems to give a richness to everything.

Cow 28...Sturdy is what comes to mind

6 x 8
oil on board
SOLD

I didn't use as much paint as usual,  I was being very thoughtful of where to place my brush strokes,  I loved the shape of this cow...nice and sturdy.

Cow 27...Full bodied

6 x 8
oil on board
SOLD

When I thought I was finished this painting I decided to add little bits of colour to give it a little bling.  I like the end result...the tricky part is knowing when to quit.

Cow 26...Little miss

6 x 6
oil on board

SOLD

For me it is a challenge painting things with tiny detail.  I ended up using 3 different size paint brushes.  Even with the smallest brush my had still wants to make a large stroke.  I did the head 3 times, the first two kind of looked like a gargoyle.

Cow 25...Baby

6 x 8
oil on board
SOLD

So I really let my paintbrush dance with this sweet little calf.  I decided to add grass at the end and am really pleased with the finished product.  I tried to stay really loose with my strokes.

Cow 24...New legs

6 x 8
oil on board
SOLD

I am practising my whites, this baby calf was the perfect subject.  I am realizing how many colours are actually in any white subject, you can play around so much and make the painting more interesting and alive.

Cow 23...Ducky

6 x 8
oil on board
SOLD

I enjoyed painting all the soft lines of this calf.  Love the tail, hence the name "Ducky".   Lately my addiction of choice has been watching oil painting demos,  Daniel J Keys, Peggi Kroll Roberts and Rose Frantzen are my three favourites, it is truly inspiring watching these artists do what they do best, you can see the quiet excitement when each of them gets to a certain point in the painting...wonderful. One of the things that Rose mentioned in her video was "let your paint brush dance" that's what I will be doing from here on in. :)

Cow 22...What were you thinking?

6 x 6
oil on board
SOLD

I decided to use a lemon yellow for the underpainting, I wanted to keep the painting really light.  The nose and mouth are my favourite part of this painting.

Cow 21...I'm just not that into you

6 x 6

I'm back on the cow kick again.  They are just such a pleasure to paint. I like how the colours turned out in this one.

Cow 19...Rusty vibes

6 x 6

We arrived home from London last night, wonderful to go on a holiday but even more wonderful to get home to all of my paints.  I did this painting before I left,  I like the colours...again limited palette so freeing.
