The peonies are from a very dear friend and the anemones are from our Saturday market. They both had beautiful pinks and whites with hints of gold so they needed to be painted. They are larger than life in this painting, I really enjoyed the whole process.

I tried to really focus on keeping this painting soft. Because I enjoy painting bold colours so much this was a challenge but I am really happy with the outcome. Sometimes less is more.

So I brought out the big paintbrushes for this big canvas.  After painting quite a few 6 x 6 inch landscapes it was really helpful to set up this painting. I used an indian yellow for the underpainting which just warmed everything up against all the blue.

Last mothers day we went on the local garden tour. There was a house that's back yard was filled with magnificent very large rhododendrons in all of my favourite yellows and pinks. There was only a small path that led you around these amazing beauties.

This painting is of the amazing parrot tulips that I purchased at our Saturday market, loose and lively is the direction I went, large brushes and I even introduced the palette knife which gives some amazing definition to the leaves and petals.

Workshop with Eumni Conacher

The last two days have been spent in a work shop with Eumni Conacher.  Since I always paint small this workshop was focused on large work.  It is always great to work outside your box, so going from a 6 x 6 inch painting to a 3ft by 3ft painting was a little daunting.  It was a wonderful excersise in just letting go.
