The first tulips of the season, my very favourite flower.  Every spring I wait a little impatiently for my favourite farm Vertgen to show up at the Saturday market with their truck full to the brim with freshly picked tulips.

I started with a red under painting which in a way  gives you a head start as it automatically fills in all those spaces that you are just not sure what to do with.  I didn't use as many darks as usual, I like the whimsy of this painting.

Finally the tulips have started arriving in the stores, they are everywhere. I pulled out my go to turquoise vase and filled it with my favourite flowers, beautiful pinks...just so pretty. I used more paint than usual, and used a palette knife along with my brush.

So I truly do have an addiction to tulips...buying them and painting them, can't have them in my yard though because they are also a big favourite of the deer.  As I have said many times they are such a simple flower but so perfect and  there is nothing better than a vase full of gently opened tulips and their dancing leaves...perfection.

For my birthday my girlfriend got me a beautiful clear glass turquoise vase,  she also tried to get some pink tulips but it was just a little to early in the year.  I spotted my first pink tulips last week and bought them, headed right home and put them in my new vase which I then painted.

 Originally there was a large window to the left of the arrangement in this painting, it just didn't  work so I took it out.  I like the simplicity.
