The first tulips of the season, my very favourite flower.  Every spring I wait a little impatiently for my favourite farm Vertgen to show up at the Saturday market with their truck full to the brim with freshly picked tulips.

First week that the Saturday Market moves outside and the weather was beautiful.  I headed straight to Vertgen farm stall to get tulips, it is impossible to chose but finally the purples won out.

Tulips are a definite favourite, the more I paint them, the more I get to know them. I used transparent's for the underpainting, all the colours get a little lift.

 Vertgen farm had the most amazing choice of flowers at the Saturday market, my favourite were the Parrot tulips.  I headed right home to put them in my go to vase and started painting

It was so exciting to paint on a large canvas, yes after painting mostly on 6 x 6 inch a 12 x 12 inch seems huge. This painting is kind of abstract impressionist with lots of colour...really fun.

This is another painting of my Turquoise vase that my friend Jeannie gave me.  I decided to use a larger panel today.  I am always surprised at how much more freedom I have especially with my initial composition.  Everything seems much more loose.

So I truly do have an addiction to tulips...buying them and painting them, can't have them in my yard though because they are also a big favourite of the deer.  As I have said many times they are such a simple flower but so perfect and  there is nothing better than a vase full of gently opened tulips and their dancing leaves...perfection.

For my birthday my girlfriend got me a beautiful clear glass turquoise vase,  she also tried to get some pink tulips but it was just a little to early in the year.  I spotted my first pink tulips last week and bought them, headed right home and put them in my new vase which I then painted.
