Cow 120 CHERRY BLOSSOM

6 x 8 inch

oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD
Todays cow I have painted before, I cropped the image differently so more of the body was showing. I chose a pink background because right now all of the cherry blossom trees are in full bloom...the most wonderful pink everywhere...pink was on my mind.

Cow 119 I'M ALL THAT

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board

I was away for 4 days so no painting. I was starting to get withdrawal so headed to my easel first thing this morning. It's good to take a break, everything is so fresh in your mind. I so enjoyed painting this cow.

Cow 118 FOREVER IN BLUE JEANS

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

I have painted this cow several times, I took many photos of her at the farm I visited in the summer, she was definitely wondering what I was doing there. I started painting using mostly blues and browns and then eventually started adding more and more purple.  I loved watching the cow pop a little more with each colour that was added.  The reason for the title is that when I was painting while listening to the radio a Neil Diamond song came on and it has been playing in my mind ever since...brings back memories of my Mom singing in the kitchen.

WHO'S PRETTY?

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
NFS

This is my Gracie, she is a rescue dog who has been with us since she was one, she is almost 12 and still runs in the bush for miles most days with my husband and our other rescue dog Charlie.  I took this photo a few days ago and was asked by my husband to paint her so he could hang the painting in his office.  It was such a treat to paint  because the entire time I kept thinking of how very sweet she is and what a wonderful addition to our family she is.

Cow 116 SOLID AS A ROCK

size 6 x 6
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
$60.00

Every Wed when I am at my studio in town, no matter how many visitors there are, when they look at my work they are always drawn to the cow paintings. Some have fond memories from their childhood and others just feel some sort of connection. I had no idea when I started painting them that they were so cherished.

Cow 115 LIVING IN PARADISE

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

When I started painting small I only did 6 x 6, now I absolutely love doing the 6 x 8. It is amazing how just two more inches can add so much more space to paint with. Still using my transparent's for the underpainting.

PLEASANTLY SURPRISED

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
$50.00

I am trying to paint more things with light and shadow, I find it hard for some reason.  I can't seem to get it around my head that it is just painting values and not to worry about the subject.  Leaving the detail until the end.

Im into you ...and your garden

size 6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
$75.00

Another animal I absolutely love, but like our deer they use our gardens as a restaurant.  It is interesting how quickly they can nibble away any plant.  Today I painted with very messy stokes, I was trying to give more interest.

WHERE TO START

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
$75.00

I took this photo last summer, the deer in Qualicum seem to know where the best delicacies are. They prance up and down our street as if it was made for them, scoping out each garden they pass looking for just the right meal...they especially love the brand new growth...delicious.

THE CHAMP

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
$60.00

Really enjoyed doing this painting, kept everything very loose and tried not to overwork.  It is hard to know when a painting is finished especially when you still have brush in hand.  What I do is leave the room for a few minutes then go back and look.

Cow 114 MISS INDEPENDENCE

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
$75.00

I have been enjoying adding background scenery to my subject, it seems to tell more of a story. I am still starting with transparent paints and really enjoying it.

Blue is one of my favourite colours, so I decided that would be the colour of focused on for todays painting.  I am really pleased with the nose on this cow.

Cow 112 THE BRAINY ONE

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
$50.00

Another cow closeup.  I have been adding a little more detail to my backgrounds lately, which is always difficult at first and then once I have done it I look forward to the next painting so I can try something again.

MOTHERLY ADVICE

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
$60.00

Loved the mother and daughter team, I do have a soft spot for retrievers of any kind especially when they are this cute.  I used not many colours for this painting and tried to not over think every detail. I did some very messy loose painting and like the outcome.

MY EYES ADORE YOU

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
$60.00

Well it was definitely time to paint another dog.  I have had this photo for quite some time and today the eyes just spoke to me as I was searching for something to paint.

ROMEO AND JULIETTE

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD
I just had to paint these little beauties again, this time I used purples and blues against the foliage, love the combination.  I will definitely be painting them again.

ADAM AND EVE

size 6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

I took this photo last summer, the fawn was looking at me quizzically before heading into the trees with her friend. The foliage is quite busy but it seems to work. I took the liberty of adding the flowers to break up the greens a little...always experimenting.

Cow 111 THELMA AND LOUISE

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

Another cow day...times two.  Again I started with transparent paints, I am really liking this method of painting especially for the lights.  I will keep experimenting with them and see where it takes me.

Cow 110 THE SCHOLAR

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
$60.00

Initially I wasn't going to paint this cow, I thought that the nose would be the only star.  Well I decided to move ahead because I enjoy painting subjects that fill the canvas.  I started using only transparent paints, and tried not to load my brush to heavily with paint...I tend to do that. I am very pleased with the finished painting.
