COLOUR EXPLOSION

30 inch by 40 inch
oil on one inch canvas
NFS

I am so enjoying using gesso to cover large paintings that I was never too fond of, even better is re-using them to play with colour on such a large scale, such a departure from what I usually paint. It is always good to try something new...gets those creative juices flowing even more.

Cow 56 Chill

6 x 6 inch
oil on board
SOLD

I used thalo blue again for my underpainting, I changed the background colour twice before I was happy with it.  Sometimes when you have such a strong underpainting colour it competes with everything else.  In the end I was happy with the green.

Cow 46 Pretty girl

6 x 8 inch
oil on panel
$65.00

I used a pink underpainting which for me made the look of the cow more interesting.I am trying different approaches to my painting.  Nothing ventured nothing gained...especially when painting.

Welcome home

6 x 6
oil on panel
$50.00

Fairfield is one of my favourite areas in Victoria.  Walking the streets filled with character homes is the perfect thing to do on a sunny afternoon, I liked the colours on this house, purple and blue two of my favourites and against the green of the shrubs is a perfect combination.

I am really trying to not start adding any serious detail until the end of the painting, this is a real challenge for me.

Going to Saltspring

6 x 8 inch
oil on panel
SOLD

I have had a week of painting and wiping, nothing was going right.  I would have all the best intentions and a plan for what I wanted to paint and then after about an hour or two each day I would wipe everything.
I went through all of my pictures, I needed inspiration.  I had taken this photo when we were going to Saltspring island for the day.  This little sweetie was sitting in the back of the car that was in front of us waiting patiently, I love the red bandana, it was as if her people had dressed her up for the trip.

Olive

oil on panel
SOLD

This is Olive, the perfect name.  This is a commission for a woman who I met last summer.  When she sent me the photos of Olive I was so excited to paint her.  Olive has so much personality in her looks.

I was driving by a neighbours a couple of days ago and spotted some beautiful daffodils, I jumped out of the car snapped a few pictures.  Today it is grey and raining so I decided it was the perfect time to paint them.

Sunday afternoon

6 x 6 inch
oil on panel

SOLD

I took this picture  when I was in Victoria,  just over the horizon is the ocean.  There is nothing more beautiful as when the cherry trees are flowering.  I don't really paint street scenes...I am going to change that, I just loved painting it.

Cow 36 Misunderstood

6 x 6 inches
oil on panel
SOLD

I painted this cow awhile back but there was just something I didn't like about it, I worked on it again today and like the outcome.  I have to try not to rush, that's when things don't turn out so well and you will almost always have to do it over.

Welcome

6 x 6 inches
oil on panel
SOLD

I could get used to painting character homes, there is something about their charm.  This house is in Victoria a block from Cook Street village, we always walk by when we are heading to grab a coffee or walking to the water front.

Lively

6 x 6 inches
oil on panel
SOLD

I think I used the least amount of white that I ever have in a painting.  I just kept adding little bits of colour to compliment the existing.  The secret is to know when to stop.

I was in Vancouver last Sept with my girlfriend and we went to a knitting store in gas town, there in the window were two very old cats.  We found out from their owner that they were sisters who were 18 years old.  I just love the way this sister was looking up at me.
