These beautiful roses are from my friend Jewel's garden, the lovely orangey yellowy colours looked amazing with my turquoise vase.  I am finding that when you are painting flowers with layers of petals you just need to suggest the shape without getting too busy with your paint strokes.

I have had this photo for quite some time, today it spoke to me.  I kept the brush strokes really loose and messy for this painting. Whenever I paint something red I always addd fuchsia pink, it just seems to give just a little more definition and interest.

This painting is from a photo taken off of Laburnum road just outside of Qualicum Beach, one of our favourite places to walk.  There is a long trail and if you follow it until the end there is a beaver pond which is just magical, the trees that they busily chew on look like great big sharpened pencils.

I was driving home a couple of days ago when these amazing poppies caught my eye, they were on the side of the road swaying in the breeze. I usually don't use a a lot of red in my paintings so these were really fun to paint for a change.

There are always a couple of robins standing around just below our plum tree, it seems in the morning they are really busy. I used a very limited palette for this painting trying to just focus on my perception of the true colours of the bird.

I find the simpler you start with these little bird paintings the better they are.  Sometimes I get carried away and want to add every little detail, but all you need to do is suggest details on the painting...less is more.

These little chickadees seem to be the star or our yard. They come in groups to check out the bird feeder and hang off of it like little acrobats.  They are so wonderful to paint.

This is another cow from Parker road where we go to run our dog. She was very curious, as my husband was feeding one of the other cows grass she walked right up as if to say what about me? Her nose was my very favourite thing to paint.

I never tire of seeing  rhododendrons blooming, my favourites being the purples and pinks...deliciously beautiful. I find flowers a perfect subject to paint, there is so much movement and the rainbow of colours is one big garden party.
