Cow 109 ROWDY RONDA

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

Another black and white cow.  The eyes were barely visible on the photo and I left them until the very end of the painting, it is interesting that just a couple of tiny brush strokes makes  the cow come to life.

Cow 108 TOPSY TURVY

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

I liked the awkward stance of this cow, drawing all the curvy lines always adds a little more interest.

Cow 107 SWEETER THAN HONEY

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gesso board
SOLD

I have painted this cow before, I just love her darling face.  For this painting I used transparent paint for the underpainting, it made the painting seem more vibrant.

FIRST PLACE

6 X 8 inch
oil on
1/8th inch  hard board
$75.00

I tried painting these daffodils yesterday and wiped the canvas after a couple of hours.  Today I tried again, I started with a white canvas, it just seemed to work better than the burnt umber wash.

ROSES ARE PINK

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch hard board
$75.00

I didn't really know where to start with this painting, so many rose petals, deciding which to highlight, or which to leave out. I just dove in and eventually roses emerged.

BLISSFUL BEAUTY

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch canvas board
$60.00

The moment I started this painting it just came alive, maybe because tulips are my very favourite flower especially when they start opening.  I have done several paintings now starting with a black gesso canvas, i am starting to get the hang of it...

PROUD MAMA

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th canvas board
SOLD

I spent the day at my studio and already decided that I would paint a bunny...maybe because Easter is just around the corner.  I started with a black gesso board, I tried to keep my strokes really loose.

COMPLETE

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch canvas board
$75.00

Last night I was already looking forward to painting my turquoise vase again today, I cut the tulips down so they were more compact.  I played around with the background and like the outcome.

LIKE MINDED

SOLD
oil on 1/8th inch canvas board
$75.00

I am enjoying using just  three primary colours for my painting. The black gesso panel is definitely a great starting point, I find that I can see the colours much more clearly...and I really enjoy painting sunflowers.

SUMMER IN NANOOSE

8 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch canvas board
SOLD

My husband took this photo at Nanoose edibles where we get much of our produce.  They plant a huge row of sunflowers every year and they are spectacular.  I used a black panel to start and ultra marine blue, cad med light, cad yellow pale and titanium white.  Again, it is a really good exercise to use a limited palette, keeps you focused on the colour you are using.

Cow 106 THE CEO

size 6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch hard board
$60.00

I decided to use a very limited palette for this painting, cad red, ultra marine blue, cad yellow pale, titanium white and burnt umber(just for the underpainting).  It forces you to make more careful choices with your colours because you have to mix first, also you have much less chance of making muddy colours. The end result is that all of the colours seem to move into each other effortlessly.

Cow 105 For whom the bell tolls

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th canvas board
SOLD

This cow was done starting with a black gesso board.  Starting dark can be challenging to begin with but once you get your mind
around it the painting comes to life, the colours start jumping out immediately.  The effect is completely different once finished, it reminds me of when were kids and used to draw with coloured chock on the blackboard.

FREE SPIRITED

size 10 x 10 inch
oil on 1/8th inch canvas board
$85.00

Finally the tulips have started arriving in the stores, they are everywhere. I pulled out my go to turquoise vase and filled it with my favourite flowers, beautiful pinks...just so pretty. I used more paint than usual, and used a palette knife along with my brush.

Cow 104 MY TRUE SELF

6 x 8 inch
oil on 1/8th inch hard board
SOLD

I had a request from a customer asking if I could paint a purple cow.  Well here it is, I absolutely loved working with so many purples and blues and then with the gold accents it all came together.  I think there will be more coloured cows.

LET'S TALK

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch hard board
SOLD

I have had this photo for some time, I never am quite sure how to tackle feathers. I fiddled around quite a bit with this painting, I think the background has about 8 layers of paint. I just had to put my brush down and be done.

HAPPY FACE

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th hard board
$60.00
I took this photo last summer. I am sure this dog was smiling at me.  I find that teeth can be tricky, didn't fuss too much, a couple of strokes and voila there were teeth. I am starting to mix my colours on the canvas more and more, I love the effect.

PIPPIN

6 x 8 inch
oil on gessobord
SOLD

Always enjoy painting an orange tabby, this was a little tricky as the photo wasn't that clear.  I really like the end result though.

COLOUR EXPLOSION

30 inch by 40 inch
oil on one inch canvas
NFS

I am so enjoying using gesso to cover large paintings that I was never too fond of, even better is re-using them to play with colour on such a large scale, such a departure from what I usually paint. It is always good to try something new...gets those creative juices flowing even more.

LOST IN THOUGHT

6 x 6 inch
oil on 1/8th inch gessobord
$60.00

I started this cat and originally was going to wipe it.  I decided to push through and am pleased that I did.  I usually use a more softened colour for my background but decided to throw caution to the wind...love the turquoise/blue against the golds and yellows.
