This is the perfect little house, it is always a challenge for me painting light and shadow but I really enjoy doing it.  When I am looking for houses to paint I am always amazed at how back in the day all of our oversized families fit very comfortably into these tiny little gems.

I used a more subtle palette than usual so I decided to use a red underpainting.  I like the end result soft with a little bit of a bite.

I took this photo in Chemainus just around there corner from my friends Moms house.  It was one of those days that reminded us why we live on Vancouver Island. I had so much fun doing the clouds.

Originally this canvas was a painting of red tulips which I painted a couple of years ago, never completely happy with it I decided to paint over it.  I love how the reds of the first painting peek through the daffodils. It is so rewarding to make something good out of something that for so long I was just not happy with.

While I was paining this little bird my friend came into my studio and said "that is the first skinny bird you have painted" and yes it was.  Usually I go for the chubby fluffy model but I loved this birds stance and colouring.

This bird was painted with a very limited paint palette, it simplifies your choices and sometimes that is just want you want.  The pink feathers of these robins always remind me of a little tutu.

This painting is thanks to my friend Ron who always has his camera on the ready especially if he spies an animal.  This bird was so enjoyable to paint, I love that he seems to be hiding behind all the lush greenery.

I always enjoy painting these sweet little pink robins especially when they are so chubby.  I used very loose brush strokes for this painting and then added some tiny definition just around the eye.

 painted this little bird with really loose quick brush strokes.  The background I wiped and changed a couple of times, finally it came together, I like the combination of colours.

I am starting to play around more and more with the backgrounds, this little bird was sitting on a wire and I decided that some beautiful blossoms would just add a little pretty. Every once in a while I step back and really take a look at my paintings that are drying on the shelf, it really is amazing that something so small can make such an impact in a room.
